Why I am Starting Classical Motherhood

I am still near the beginning of my motherhood journey. With an 18-month-old and another due in 3 months, I feel a need to share my thoughts and experiences along this beautiful, yet difficult, journey. At the same time I am also starting my homesteading journey with my first garden and getting a flock of chickens.

It has been a big change of pace to become a mother. Life before kids seemed so much more self-serving. I used to spend my days working on mine and my husband’s art business, making phone calls, making art, going on adventures, attending events, hosting parties, and doing whatever I really felt like.

Now, my days are spent attending to the needs of another. I am at home cleaning, making meals, changing diapers, reading stories, playing peek-a-boo, doing laundry, etc,. And coming from such a fast-paced, entrepreneurial lifestyle, this seemed so different to me. It is still a struggle for me to embrace this way of life, not because I don’t enjoy it, but because of 26+ years of programming that told me that being a stay-at-home-mom was something not worthy to be.

We must reframe our minds about what it is to be a mother. For all of history, mothers were meant to stay at home with their kids and take care of the home. It wasn’t until recently that it has become normal to send our babies off to daycare at 3 months old, and off to public school for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, while we go off to our 9-5’s. Leaving the care of our kids in the hands of strangers who do not have our families’ best interest in mind. In fact, the whole design of it all is meant to degrade and devalue the family as whole, but I will leave that whole situation for another time.

I think modern mothers should be encouraged to stay at home with their kids. And we should embrace this slow-paced, nurturing, traditional lifestyle. That is the reason I am starting this blog. I want to inspire other mothers to take pride in their very important roles as mothers and homemakers. This is the oldest, most important job on earth. And we need to take it very seriously, it is in our hands to create the wonderful human beings that run our future world.

I will use this blog to:

  • Share ways that we can learn from our ancestors and embrace a traditional way of life.
  • Share simple, nutritious, recipes.
  • Share my personal journey as a mother and homesteader.
  • Share toxin-free living ideas.
  • Share thoughts on the modern culture and way of life.
